INTERVIEW

Marcus & Martinus - "As we get older, I feel the music grows with us... "

Marcus & Martinus-As we get older, I feel the music grows with us...
Your new album "Moments" was released on November 17th. How does this album differ from the previous CD called "Together"?

Martinus: We’ve developed a lot musically.

Marcus: As we get older, I feel the music grows with us. This album is more grown up.

"Together" was your first album released in Poland. Its success made "Moments" appear without any delay. In just a few months you have conquered another country. How do you feel about it?

Marcus: It is so exciting, we can’t believe it, it’s crazy. We wouldn’t have done it without our amazing fans!

Martinus: A big thank you to all of our fans in Poland!

You are young and talented artists who have managed to fulfill their dreams. Would you consider yourself lucky?

Marcus: We are lucky that we can do what we love every day - to sing, dance and perform.

Martinus: We work hard and have a lot of fun!

Let's get back to the beginning. How did your adventure with music start?

Marcus: When we were really young we dreamed of being professional football players. And we have always liked to perform, so after we won MGP Jr when we where 1o years old (Eurovision Junior in Norway) we startet thinking that singing might be something we could do more of.

Martinus: Both of us really like to be on stage and to perform, so now we play football when ever we can, but artists are what we know we want to be!

What kind of music do you listen to every day? Do you have your favorite artists who inspired you in some special way?

Martinus: We listen to a lot of different music every day, but some of our favorite artists we really look up to is Jason Derulo, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber.

How does the process of creating your songs look like? Are you working on a song together or you are creating separate sketches of your works, and then working out the details? Or maybe there is a division when one of you composes music and the other one writes lyrics?

Marcus: We work with different producers and teams in the studio. Sometimes the producers have an idea we really like, and we take it from there, and sometimes we start from scratch. On the new album Moments I got to write my first rap vers, on One Flight Away - that was so cool!

You are twins and as they say siblings are often in conflict with each other. How does it look like in your case? Do you argue one another?

Martinus: We never argue about big, serious things. That doesn’t happen.

Marcus: But if we’re bored, like on long car rides, we can start pushing and picking on each other, just for «fun». But really, Martinus is my best friend!

Despite your young age, you have already accomplished a lot. How do you reconcile your daily duties such as learning with your musical activities?

Marcus: School is important! So we know that homework is something that must be done. And it really helps that our dad is a teacher!

Martinus: We also do a lot of training to be better artists, we Skype with a vocal coach in LA every week, we have dance lessons and also to play football is good for us. Then we stay in shape and can dance even more on stage!

Popularity has its pros and cons. Do you still have time to meet with your buddies and to live an ordinary family life?

Martinus: We live in a small village, called Trofors. It only lives 800 people there! When we are home we live a normal life, go to school, play with our friends and do the same things as any other 15 year old boys.

Our music website was among the media patrons of your album, which we are very happy about. As soon as we announced that "Together" would be available in Poland, the frenzy started. Your fans have asked us thousand of questions so we had a bit of what you have to deal with every day. And that's what I wanted to ask you about - how do you deal with the popularity and the adoration of girls?

Marcus: We say a lot that we have the best fans in the world, but its true! We really do, and we are so happy that we can share this experience with them! We love coming to new countries and meet new people! Now we want to learn some polish!

So let's just talk about girls for a moment. Guys, I have to ask this question, because I'm sure there are a lot of your Polish female fans who would love to hear the answer. Do you have girls?

Both: No

And what is your ideal of a girl?

Martinus: It doesn’t really matter if she’s a blonde or a brunette or anything like that.

Marcus: I don’t think we have a specific type, the most important thing is that she is kind and cute!

In August you performed at the Young Stars Festival in Warsaw. How do you recall this festival? Marcus: This was our first time in Poland, and we really loved it! Martinus: It was a very cool festival, and we had so much fun performing.

I'm sure that your Polish female fans would love to see you during the tour of the album "Moments". Is there any chance that you will come back to Poland soon? Maybe this time for a little longer?

Martinus: We will be back on march 20th when we have our own concert – we are SO excited! Hope to see a lot of our Polish fans there!

And what are your first thoughts when you hear Poland?

Marcus: I know its a very beautiful country, and that I really enjoy Warsaw.

Martinus: I would like to learn some polish words, so hopefully we will meet some fans at our concert that can teach us some!

Allegedly in addition to music, you are also interested in football. What is you favorite football team?

Martinus: Chelsea

Marcus: Manchester United

So let's stay with sport for a moment. Do you practise any sport outside of football? For example cross-country skiing? I heard that skiing is very popular in Norway...

Martinus: we use almost all free-time to play football, because we really really love it! But also we run, cross-country ski and downhill.

Marcus: We really like to stay active, luckily we live a place where its a lot of fun activities to do! Also, we love to fish - its a sport, right?

You got many music awards. Which one is the most precious to you?

Marcus: We appreciate them all, but it was very cool to win “Årets Spellemann” («Norwegian Grammy: Artist of the Year»). We received it from the Norwegian hit artist Kygo, as he won it the year before us, which was cool.

So what are your plans for the near future?

Martinus: We have our European Tour «Moments tour» coming up. We are really looking forward to it.

Marcus: It is also going to be nice to be back in the studio and make some more music.

Guys, I would like to thank you very much for having found the time to talk with me. I wish you success. I also hope that you will often visit our country. Thank you once again. Good luck!
