Gloria Gaynor -My fulfillment comes from a number of things in my life and the success of my career is part of it...
At the beginning of our conversation, I would like to thank you for the fact that you found time for us and that you agreed to do this interview. This is a great honor for us. Thank you. Before we get to the subject of your current activities I would like start by asking you about beginnings of your musical career. You signed your first record contract at the age of 19, but I'm curious when did you first become interested in music? When did you realize that singing is something that you really want to do in your life?
I first became interested in music when I was around 7 years old. I decided I wanted to be a singer when I was 13.

Your debut album was released in January of 1975 and was called "Never Can Say Goodbye". The album was appreciated by the critics and became the beginning of your long and successful career. Tell me, how do you remember that time? The moment when you came into the studio to record this CD? Did you feel that your dreams are coming true?
Yes, I really believed my dreams were beginning to come true when I recorded “Never Can Say Goodbye”. It was a great time when I was looking to the future with great expectations and many exciting plans.

I asked about your memories because I wonder how did you handle with fame? Well, with each passing year, with each new album you became more and more popular? I have a feeling that in those days you had to have a lot of talent and confidence to keep on top. Today it is rather quite easy to become a star.
It’s true that in those days you had to have a lot of talent and confidence to keep on top. Still, today it is even more difficult for an artist with talent and confidence, coupled with morals to reach the top and stay there. Record companies and the public seem to be more interested packaging than talent.

You are known as the "Queen of Disco". Is it difficult to keep the crown for so long? When you look at your career from the perspective of all those past years, do you feel satisfied? You feel like a fulfilled woman?
My fulfillment comes from a number of things in my life and the success of my career is part of it.

Well, I guess this topic probably occurs in all of your interviews. I won't be original, and I'll also ask you about it. Your biggest hit, the song "I Will Survive" was released in 1978 and has appeared on the album "Love Tracks". If we went back in time and we went back to the recording session of that song, what would you say about it now? Did you feel that this track will become so popular? That it will be the anthem of the next generations?
When I first read the lyrics of “I Will Survive”, I related to it and it encouraged and uplifted me. I believed it was a timeless lyric, an infectious melody, and a song that nearly everyone would be able to relate to just as I did, for as long as it was available to be heard.

Now, I would like to ask you about your seventeenth album called "I Wish You Love" released in 2002. This was your first album after 5-year break and your first international release in 18 years. How would you describe this album? What was the reason for such a long break in your career?
In my opinion, “I Wish You Love” was the best album of my career. There were more potential hits on it than any other album I ever recorded. I recorded 4 albums and several singles during that 18 year period between 1986 and 2004. Unfortunately, none of the record companies released the products internationally.

You are not only a singer but also a public figure, an icon of pop culture. Tell me is the music still gives you the same pleasure, same satisfaction? Well, you are on the scene since 60's. That's an awful lot of time. Did you ever feel tired of all of this?
I began singing in 1962, but did not start recording until 1971. I still love performing as much as ever. When I’m on stage, all is right with the world.

At the end of this year you’ll release your new book written in collaboration with Sue Carswell. Its title is "We Will Survive: True Stories of Encouragement, Inspiration, and the Power of Song." Could you tell us more about it? What is this book about?
It is a compilation of stories as told to me, of how “I Will Survive” has had a positive impact on people and encouraged, uplifted, and empowered them to come triumphantly through traumatic circumstances in their lives.

I wonder when can we expect your new album? Are you working on new material?
I am working on a new inspirational EP, that will be released simultaneously with the book. It will have 7 songs, including a new release of “I Will Survive”, and 5 new songs that I have written.

We often ask our interviewees what music means to them. However, I would like to ask you about the importance of love. What is its role in your daily life? It's a very complicated feeling, but it seems it’s not easy to live life without it ...
To me, love is all important. It is the reason we do the positive, productive, meaningful things we do for ourselves and others. It makes life worth living.

Once again, I would like to thank you that you agreed to do this interview. I wish you many successes and happiness in life. Take care.
